Moving Up From a 20 Gallon Fish Tank

For many reasons, freshwater aquariums tend to be a lot less expensive than saltwater aquarium systems. But the two main reasons are the cheaper cost of the fish and the less complex filtering system needed for a freshwater aquarium. And then there’s the matter of size.

When you go from a 20 gallon fish tank to a much larger tank, such as a 100 gallon fish tank, for example, you have to begin to take serious consideration of the surface that you plan on placing the tank. If you choose an aquarium stand, make sure that it’s rated to hold at least a 100 gallon tank. If you choose shelving material such as particle board, solid wood, metal, plastic, or other – make sure that it’s thick enough to support this sized tank.
