There are lots of people that want to achieve fast weight loss and figure the best way to do that is go on a crash diet. Although in the very short term that may work, the problem as most people know is that when you go back to your regular routine you gain all of the weight back. The reason that this happens is that while on the diet, your body gets used to not getting a lot of food so it slows down it’s metabolism. Our bodies are very smart but sometimes they work against us. Slowing your metabolism is your body’s way of ensuring your survival because it’s not sure when more food will come it’s way.
When you do finally start feeding it regularly again, for the first few days your metabolism stays slow and your body stores as many calories as it can for use later. It’s still not sure if the food will keep coming. When it finally does realize that you are back to a regular eating schedule, it start the metabolism revving faster again, but the damage is already done. You have gained back the 8-10 pounds you lost while on your special fast weight loss diet.
A better way to lose weight is to slowly lower your calorie intake so your body doesn’t panic and slow right down. Another way to combat this is to eat more often throughout the day but eat smaller portions. This way your body is receiving food very regularly (every 2-3 hours) and will not feel the need to store any of the calories in case food stops coming.
Crash diets do not work for fast weight loss, unless you want to lose a few pounds in a very short time and are OK with gaining it all back.
