How would you go about defining a “travel song?” Does it have to actually be a song about traveling or can it just be that great song that everyone knows the words to and can sing together in an over packed car during an extended road trip across several state lines? The song I always thing of first whenever people ask me about good traveling songs is, End of the Line by the Traveling Wilbury’s. (It’s track ten on their Volume 1 album. Fun Fact: they eventually produced a Volume 3 album but there never was a Volume 2.) Even though traveling is right there in the band name and the word road is used repeatedly in the song it’s more of a song about death than about travel…and yet, THIS is the song I like to sing with my friends while we’re traveling. I guess what I’m asking is, do the people listening to the song have any say in whether or not what they’re listening to actually belongs in the category of travel songs?
